Panels made from laminated veneer are very versatile. There are almost endless variations and applications. The three main application categories are construction, furniture and packaging. And in each category, there are a great number of alternatives depending on which specific characteristics are requested.
Mechanical properties
Mechanical properties are usually defined by strength and stiffness, described as a function of Modulus of Rupture and Modulus of Elasticity, respectively. We offer hardwood panels which generally offer better mechanical properties than softwood panels. Our eucalyptus panels offer properties which are very close to birch.
Veneer quality
The grade describes the quality and appearance of the veneer, amongst others taking into consideration knots, cracks, splits, gum/resin pockets, discolouration. Different country standards have different definitions and grade criteria. Normally A/I is highest quality and D/IV at the lower end. Read more here on grading.
Glue/adhesive
The three most common adhesives used in plywood, LVL and LVB manufacture are: Urea Formaldehyde, Melamine Formaldehyde and Phenol Formaldehyde. Which one to use depends on requested bond quality and permitted emission levels of formaldehyde. Structural panels have higher demands on quality and resistance to water/moisture whereas non-structural panels are aiming for indoor use and dry conditions. Terms such as weather and boil proof (WBP), exterior, A-bond are used to describe the higher qualities. Formaldehyde emissions are defined by E0, E1 etc. Lowest number indicates lowest emission.
Type of panel
LVL: Laminated Veneer Lumber. All layers have the same fibre direction. Gives bending strength in fibre direction.
LVB: Laminated Veneer Board (crossbanded LVL). Including two or more crossband veneer to reduce splitting when using metal fasteners.
Plywood: Every second layer of veneer is crossband which gives strength in all directions.
We offer panels with max dimensions 1220 x 2500 mm, with standard dimensions of 1200 x 2400 mm and 1220 x 2440 mm (4 x 8 ft). Thickness range is 4.5 – 45 mm. Our standard veneer thicknesses are 1.5 and 2.4 mm.
The panels shown below are our standard products, but we offer customized panels on request.
